January 29 2000
January 28 2000Wireless TV and Internet in Toronto... Look Communications - pretty cool, 1.5Mbps download speed! Unfortunately the uplink is still through modem (28.8?! what are they thinking), but i was just talking to one of the guys over there, and they are petitioning the CRTC for approval of bi-directional access, which would have me signing up tomorrow. As it is i will wait till that happens, but they do have some pretty cool stuff... And the TV service is pretty good too. This interest all stems from the ongoing HSE Sympatico 'Access Manager' PPPoE crap. Check out SympaticoUsers.org.
January 24 2000On a much lighter note, i've been learning Python and loving it! I will be revamping the geekring code using Python as opposed to perl, YAaa! Everyone should learn Python! Now! ok, I know I'm tired, so please excuse this but Die DoubleClick, Die!
Now this is not just 'cuz they are violating your privacy, tho that would be enough, but also that they are such lying scum sucking corporate fuckers, that i just want to stop the world and get off. You can read more about it at Slashdot. If you want to remove D-clicks ad's read this posting on how to do it (for windows). Real easy. The WTO get's that epithet too (you can read and watch some non-mainstream reporting of the WTO Seattle mess here).I know no updates for a bit - its really crunch time at work, and will be till the 7th so there you go. While i've got you here tho, have you looked at Fear Effect? DailyRadar has two MPEG's up (here and here) which look really good. Can't wait. I'd also like to rant (cuz i don't have time to really put together a well thought out bit) about how STUPID and FUCKED-UP the MPAA and DVD Group is. Having a 16 year-old arrested in another country? Submitting the very thing they are concerned about into public record? Slashdot is going crazy over this stuff... And unfortunately, i'm going to have to delay any kind of purchase of DVD's and a Player till they wise up... which sucks cuz i really want one... Another great article about the whole DeCSS/MPAA farce crazyness...
January 22 2000Oh, early in the morning... Compressing Video is a real pain, let me tell you. Takes a long time and a bit of guess-work to get it right... Thank goodness for iCraveTv.com - veg out with the TV while working ( or waiting for the video to compress). There was an interesting discussion with Bruce Perrins on IRC today - you can read the transcript here. Pretty cool. Missed out on a GeekGathering today at Ryan's. I hope it was good... Ah StarTrek: TNG, the savour of all late-nights... Sometimes i do miss cable. But it's just as well really. i'd be up all the time if i had it! (law and order everynight on A&E, oh ya!) What else can I ramble on about... not much... It's the Sherlock Holm's episode, where Moriarity becomes sentient. Pretty good, if not a bit cheesy.
January 21 2000Cold today. Very cold.
January 20 2000Kevin Mitnick to be released today... 60 Minutes interview on Sunday. SecretLiar Offline! Somebody has hijacked the NSI DNS servers! Ratboy is no-where to be found! Updates as we get them...
January 19 2000I haven't been looking at Director Stuff for a while as i've been experimenting and working with Flash. Today i went to one of my fav 'New Director stuff' sites, Director Web, to get an update and found this link. I highly recommend you check out the stuff on this page, especially the autonomous character locomotion library link. Another cool thing - build your own 'movie' e-cards at Nike. Pretty cool.
January 18 2000I don't know about the rest of ya, but this is something i've thought about... phonebashing.com
January 17 2000Big Ya! Be is going Free! I can't wait!!! Ok, now Ottawa is talking about getting Ontario to fund 'other reglious' schools. I don't think that we should be funding any other school system, other then the public system. I still can't believe that we (ontario) are constitutionally obliged to fund both the public and Catholic school systems. Snow! Toronto get's its first all day snow storm. Ya! And the trip to Bristol is on! If you want to go Snowboarding for cheep, check it out!
January 14 2000This is a bit of a ... ah i dont really know how to describe it, check it out - Exercise.mpeg 1.3megs. Ah another weekend! Pretty good one actually too! Very cold start to the week tho! -40 in the morning is a bit much...
January 13 2000I'm getting pretty excited about the release of the PS2! Not just for all the great games, but also the DVD player! (of course that means that i will have to buy a new amp that can decode surround sound 5.1, but that's another story) Over the holidays i had the opportunity to watch Chinatown on DVD - super nice. Old Jack is looking pretty young there, but already very much like he is now... Ah, friday.
January 11 2000Some really exciting game stuff coming soon - for playstation : Spider Man! done by the cats that did Tony Hawk Pro Skater, it looks really good. Galerians sounds like its got a great story with some interesting twists on how you win the game. I'm just looking forward to being able to set people on fire with my mind. Fear Factor is also sounding quite cool - both visually and control wise... Yet another crazy news day - Mr. Gates steps down as CEO of Microsoft - @Home responds to the call for a UDP against them - and we got lots of snow. shouts to Tony for pointing this one out - TRON light cycles game in 3D! For Mac, PC, Linux etc... GPL'ed so its Free... Get it now, now, NOW! Snow, snow, snow! Ya baby!
January 09 2000Amazing Shockwave site - it will install the Beatnick plug-in, but its worth the wait. (unless you have a really slow connection... i don't know how big the plug-in is) Scully in Star Wars? Could be... Ok, so what is up with this weather? I just know that we are going to pay for it some how - look at the floods and mud slides happening in South America. I don't know what we will get, but i bet it will be bad... I remember reading about a case of Malaria in Toronto last summer... Who knows what other diseases may become active in Toronto. Where is my mask... As usual Tony also has some excellent updates on his site too. PDA for Playstation 2 - based on the Palm OS... Yummmm.... I don't remember if i've seen this site before, but here it is again for our Medical Palm users - PDAMD.com Sony/Palm deal in the works or a done deal? Check out some of the pic's. GPL'ed Video Editing Software for Linux? You betcha! Hummmm, credit card theft. E-blackmail. Nice. Yikes.
January 03 2000Well its now past my birthday, and i am going to use that as an excuse for why i've done no new updates. I just want to say Thanks to all those who made it out on Saturday! Will write more later, really. Watch out for flying trees today - high wind warning in effect - 90km +!
December 31, 1999Wow - we all survived. Ah well. I should do some kind of crazy design for the site for the end of the 19xx's... If i get really motivated (and find some time) i'll get right on that...
Hey, if we are all here next week, come out to the Clearspot (here is a map) on Saturday for my birthday! The end is nigh! ... or not. Happy New Year's Eve!
