July 30, 1999

  • Palm/Medical News : More medical info in DOC format for the palm pilot. The two interesting links are " ... summary of NCI PDQ Documents." and " ... Information for Patients ... ".
  • Want to know how far away the lightning is? Check out this palm pilot app.
  • Please, please, do not ever feel that this would make me a good gift, ok? Thanks.
  • Get one of those "dont lick the stamp cuz you will get AIDS" emails? Before you forward it to all your contacts, you might want to check the Urban Legends Reference Pages. Its got all the common rumors and some other pretty obscure and funny ones. Actually, its worth checking out regardless!
  • Medical News: Drug Database on the Pilot - Apothecarium
  • More info on PayPal, a new form of 'virtual' money that you can transfer using a 3com Palm Pilot.
  • Really informative and provocative article on HNN about the next wave of viruses.
  • If you really want to depress yourself, check out this survey for what kind of salery someone with your skills are making. This is really for tech geeks only.

  • More examples of how people are removing some of the anonymity of the net, using legal loopholes.
  • Arg! Cool research that will not be an actual product for who knows how long!!! 180Gigabits of data on a CD the size of a penny. Really. Wow.
  • Ok, so I don't know if you all are aware of Red Hat's intent to IPO. Well, they sent out an advanced offer to some of the Open Source programmers that have helped to create Linux. This is the story of one of them trying to participate in the IPO. From Salon.com
  • Pretty neat article about Titan (moon of Saturn) having an ocean of oil.
  • Article from the globe about the Myths of Internet Start Ups. Talks about e-commerce and what the reality is rather then the hype.
  • Lord of the Rings casting news - Aragorn is cast!
  • Alright! This will be the last update for a while, as I will be on vacation next week! Hope you all some how manage to get by with out me! Have a great week and weekends!
  • July 29, 1999
  • It seems that the powers that be, notably Janet Reno, do not want you and I to be able to get or use cryptographic tools on the 'net. I say 'tough shit'. I'm going to keep using PGP with 2056 bit encryption, so my email, records, stuff will be uncrackable till the end of time. Or some Ph.D. figures out how to generate lots of primes easily... Check out this introduction to Cryptography
  • Neuromancer movie? Check out www.neuromancer.org. As Russel says - "Oh boy! Due out next year. Directed by the guy who did Alien 3. Closely working with Gibson. Get those mirrorshades on!" I will believe it when I see the previews. And it better be good.
  • Get me one of these! A robot to clean the floors and collect dirty dishes! Oh ya. Read about it here.
  • More fun made of Microsoft. Nice.
  • CyberCats. No, really.
  • July 28, 1999
  • Plug of the Day : www.classicgaming.com - If you were/are a video gaming freak, and are looking for games of old (and even not so old), you can start at this site. Has ROM's, emulators, links, the whole thing. Great site.
  • Much better pictures of the new Amiga are available here.
  • Just archived July 1 to 15 in the Old News section.
  • Link update - you can now check out what southern Ontario looks like, right now! Click the link above for the picture.
  • Got a broadband connection to the 'net? You can watch NASA TV! Read about it here. This is pretty cool. Since the TV broadcasters will not air this stuff, this is the only way to see it. Step one toward on-line TV.
  • More medical news - Palming Prescriptions - using a hand held electronic prescription pad.
  • Quick rumor killer - Peter Jackson vs. StarWars. No, he did NOT say he disliked Episode 1.

  • Another cool conveyance, Freeboard. Snowboarding on the Street.
  • More Amiga stuff - some pics of the new box.
  • I refuse to give in to the urge to also put a link to the new Apple iBook here. Even though it looks great. Even though its got the coolest wireless technology to grace a computer. Even though, ah, forget it, check it out now!

  • Tony again :
OK so there's this presumably expired painter who painted pinup girls.

All of the pictures in this collection feature shapely gals in iron bras with their panties around their ankles. Please don't visit if you are offended by such things. Lord knows I'm not, this is strictly run-of-the-mill for a charming bachelor like myself.

The really strange thing is the theme of *celery* (yes you read that right) and some creepy leering working stiff in nearly all of the pictures.

The site features a bunch of the pictures with titilating commentary."

  • Ok, starting tomorrow I'm going to add new items from the top! I don't know why this only just occurred to me, probably because I'm on glue...
  • July 22, 1999
  • Ok, after all that deliberation and comparison shopping, I went with a totally different make and model of camera. Go figure. Anyway, I got a Minolta Vectis Weathermatic Zoom. Sure, its not a stylie as the Canon Elph, however, it will take several knocks and bangs without breaking. It floats, and can go as deep as 10 meters under water. Should be good for Snowboarding action shots this winter too. I will be pounding a bunch of film through it this weekend to see how it measures up. Will give you all a review.
  • Oh ya, don't know if you noticed, but there is a little link just above the date. Just if you want to know the weather in Toronto. I should add the cottage region too... Hang on.
  • No updates tomorrow, the weekend or Monday. Long weekend for me! See ya next week!
  • July 21, 1999
  • Thought the Aeron was the be all and end all of chairs? Well, check this out.

  • ADSL and new camera this week, I'm so excited, I could pee. Ok, maybe not pee, but I am pretty excited. Actually that is pretty damn depressing or at least really shows what a huge geek I am. Lordy.
  • New 3com PalmPilot, the IIIe, is now available. And at a better price then most of the other pilots. Its got the better screen that the IIIx has, 2 meg's of memory (1 more then the pro), and the 3.x OS. I want one! The price is actually pretty good, $229 US. I hope they continue to release new products which 'normal' folks can afford and use. I love the Pilot and try to recommend them to everyone I know, but they are still too expensive. <sigh>
  • July 15, 1999
  • Another funny link from Tony - Cat Haikus
  • Well, its hot and sticky here again. I got very little sleep again last night. Poo.
  • I've finally decided to buy a new camera. I'm thinking the Canon Elph 490z. Its an APS camera (i can hear the boo's now), but before you give me heck about the format, I just want something for snap-shots. I can have the pictures droped to CD when i get the film developed, and at web resoultions, it will be more then fine. So there!
  • They are listening. BBC report about the British government taping all calls to Ireland. There is another take on this from The Independant.
  • More info on the new Amiga box.
