September 30, 1999
September 28, 1999Holy shit - Japan Suffers Worst Nuclear Plant Accident. Wow, a remake of Rollerball in the air? From what Harry at aint-it-cool-news has to say, it could be really good. If you have not seen it, you should - rollerderby with motorcycles. Yum. Oh ya - the Sisters show - well, the sound was shit, a chick puked in front of me (which actually turned out to be pretty funny. This couple, very tall, pushed their way infront of me and started to dance around, in the puke. I got a good chuckel out of it), drunk frat-boys and so much f'ing smoke you could hardly make out the band. Which may have been the point, Eldritch is getting old... Funny thing Ryan sent me of the Day! Zorb, a "human-sized inflatable hamster ball!" Way Cool Playstation Game of the Day! Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, read the review at Next Gen-online. I played an early demo, and it rocked! I can't wait to get this game. Last day of September! Wow. Time goes fast. Ok, so that's the last time I ever eat at a food court! Especially at the Eaton's center! Man, spending the day on the toilet is a real drag!
September 27, 1999Part 2 of John Katz's article about the coming Cyberclysm is up at slashdot. Apple vs. Linux? Has Apple lost the 'change the world' emotional edge to Linux and the Open Source Movement? Read about it here on Salon. Plastic from Plants? I like the idea, read about it at the BBC. Sisters of Mercy tonight!
September 24, 1999Damn! Hilton is not planning a space hotel! Poo. That would have been really really cool. 1999 Darwin awards! Y2K passe? How 'bout 2038? Cyberclysm? John Katz's new article talks about the problems inherent with the speed of change in our crazy fast paced world. Tidal wave bomb? Looks like the US, British and Auzzies were doing some R and D on this during WWII. Linus Torvalds awarded honorary doctorate! Petty cool. (Linus is the guy that brought the world the Linux OS) Ah, another weekend come and gone. But what a beautiful one! I hope you all had an opportunity to get out and enjoy this great September weather we have been getting! I love fall!
September 23, 1999How many genes? Research indicates that we may have as many as 150,000. wow. I have no idea what that really implies, but am more interested that the original estimates are so far from the mark. You gotta be kidding me - you can now trade on the future's market for what the weather will be like. Is it just me, or is that totally fucked?
September 22, 1999George C. Scott died yesterday. If you don't know who this is, check out this report, and rent Dr. Strangelove. More info about the Columbine High School Killings. As the facts become clear, you can see how crazy and panicked people were after the killing. Wanting to have 'someone' to blame.
September 21, 1999Finally put up my 'Dress Up Ratboy' game thing. You have to have shockwave installed to see it. Weird shit of the day - Jesux, a linux distribution for Christians. Really. They want to get rid of 'kill', 'abort' and referances to 'deamons' in the OS. Ok...
September 20, 1999Oh man, you just have to read this Interview with Hayao Miyazaki. If you don't know who he is, go right now to http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/ then read the interview. Watch his films. Show your children, friends and family. I can not sincerely enough urge you to see his films. You can view the trailer for his latest film, Princess Mononoke by clicking on this link. An informative and easy to understand article about IPv6 is up at CNN. Read it and become learned. One of my favourite search engines, Google.com, has just come out of beta! Yaaa, go search for stuff or you can read the press release. Ya! There is a ray of hope that the Governments of the US and UK will disallow 'gene-patents'. We can only hope. The whole idea of a company 'owning' a patent on a human gene is just so ridiculous I can't even talk about it. Here is another interesting article on the same subject.
September 16, 1999As if you needed more evedence, here is a report about how unsecure and unprivate the 'net is. Guard your data. Don't fill out those forms! Lie! I'm not kidding. Really. Ah the US and its stance on Crypto. First totally against it, now, strangly for it. Makes you wonder... With good reason - check out this article at Wired News. More info about 3Com spinning off the Palm division. Happy Birthday to Kathy!!!
September 14, 1999If you have not noticed, I've add a countdown to Y2K beside the weather link. If you are into timers and stuff of that ilk, check out this page of links. It's also where I found the link below. Right, well I've been having this discussion with lots of people over the years about a different 'day' cycle. I've always wanted a longer day. Well, here it is! A 28 hour day, all planed out. I'm willing to give it a try, anybody else? Come-on, it would rock! Lets lobby for adoption right now! "Dear Mr. Lasman, I really think we should move Toronto forward by adopting the 28 hour clock..." August is now Archived in the Old News section... Interesting technology - MP3's on your Playstation. Well, you probably thought you still had 105 days left (till jan 1, 2000), didn't you? I'm afraid that I've got some bad news for you...
September 8, 1999Handspring has released its new Hand-Held PDA! Check out their website and this CNN story. Stupid fun with Electricity! A 1.5 Million-Volt Tesla Coil Why are geeks lacking in Social Skills? Well, read this NP article and check out this Slashdot forum. Interesting article/site from the NationalPost Online about the Rave sceen in Winipeg. Ok, quick apologies to all for the lack of updates over the past week! The Toronto film festival has started, so I'm in film mode, work got crazy, and I was just plain tired. One thing that made me tired over the past few days was - Orson Scott Card's new book, Enders Shadow (the link is to Amazon, its got a review, and I get no kick back if you buy the book). If you liked Enders Game, you will like this book too. Basically the same story, but told from Bean (one of the other kids') point of view. Really good. It also left off with lots of possibility for further novels, which I think would be a good thing. So many good films, I don't even know where to start. Greg Araki's Splendor was great. Walk with Lions was another beautiful film. Spring Forward, I just can not put enough praise on this film. The acting of Ned Betty and Liv was ... fabulous, the script excellent and the photography great. Go see it. Dreamcast has been released! Some great games, nice graphics, pretty good price. Still don't know if I will get one cuz... The PS2 details have been released, game news is out, and it looks so amazing that I can hardly even believe it. Some games that are in development that I'm really excited about: It also sounds like there may be a sequel/new game from the guys that made Silent Hill. Ohhh, more thrills and chills... Also, Lalonde just got the Sound track to the game, and said that it is really good... Can you tell that we really liked this game? Go get it and play it now. Or better yet, wait till dark, where there is nobody at home and play it. In the dark. Alone.

September 4, 1999Tony's new Flashed site is up and looking great! Check it out. More Palm's in the hospitals. Another article on how PalmPilots are being used by medical professionals. I'm going to be running a game of Diplomacy soon. If you are interested, check out this link. Arg - no updates in a bit - getting crazy here at work.
September 3, 1999Fuck, are we becoming more like Americans? Suing at the slightest whim? Check this story out - a Canadian mother sues South Park, cuz her son's name is Kenny, and watching the TV Kenny die over and over again is giving the 'real' Kenny psychological problems. Well I have a solution - don't let your kid watch the fucking show! Christ, it's not a kids show! Sometimes I despair that we are sliding into a mass of stupidity. Then I realise that it's already happened...
Commodore 64 stuff. Ahh, the old days... I got this link from a bunch of people, all on the same day... AtomFilms. They have all sorts of short films online, and you can also buy them. Pretty cool, especially check out the Star Trek one, in the animation section. Very funny. Need feedback - should I keep the Hacker News thing? Flip me an email. Oh ya, have a great long weekend too! TRAILER FOR PRINCESS MONONOKE!!!! Ok, it's big (12 meg), but its quicktime 4, so it should 'stream' too. I'm going to see this at the Toronto International Film Festival a week Saturday. If you love Miyazaki, you have to go see it. Weirdness for a Friday - ScreenFridge, the fridge of the future... Happy September!
