Baked Alaska

So is it just me, or is the weather totally fucked? We go from 42 with the damn humidex (helldex), to 10 the next night? What is up with that?

In addition to the crazy weather, we have 'smog' alerts, which are just a nice way of saying, "Don't excercise too much, or even breath as our atmospher is so poisened that it could be harmful to your health". I'm reminded of a Bloom County strip where there was a leak at the local Nuclear power-plant and, i think it was Milo, was telling one of the forest creatures about it and asked if they could "well, stop breathing for about a week?" This is how i interpret our "smog" warnings.

Drive in!

Ok, so i think the last, and only, time i'd been to a drive in was, god's, to see "Battlestar Galactica" and "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century". My latest adventure at the drive in was to see "Evolution" and "The Fast and the Furious".

Now, first of all, we went of the coldest night of the summer (it was like 10 degrees celsius), so while we had the best intentions of sitting outside, it proved to be a bit unmanageable, especially with the addition of a bit of rain. Also, the audio is no longer delivered through a small speaker that you hang through your window, its now broadcast on 90.7 FM! Kinda cool, but the radio we had with us was not up to the task of delivering THX levels of audio (that's an in joke for the folks that were actually there).

Also, we were in the front row, as we hoped to sit outside to watch. Unfortunatly, what this meant was once we were inside the car you could see about one eighth of the screen from the back seat. Not so good for the other folks with us ( we were fair tho, we switched off for the second film). But sitting almost upside down in the back seat of a car to watch a film (or all scrunched over with your neck at a 90 degree angle) does not promote a "relaxed" viewing experiance!

Now, to top it all off, the movies basically sucked major ass. At least "Evolution" was supposed to be funny, and did have a few funny bits, but it really just showed that David Duchovny is pretty desperate for work. I don't know what Vin was thinking with "Fast", but man, guy, don't do such shitty films! Even if you get to drive fast cars and have half dressed women all around you, it isn't worth it, really! And, quite frankly, for the level of crap dialog that this movie has, there wern't nearly enough car chases.

I have high hopes for our next outing tho! I think renting a pick-up, or station wagon (you then park them backwards and sit in the back to watch the film) would greatly improve our experiance!

I should make it clear that it was a good time! I know this comes off sounding a bit negative, but really, it was fun! We had tonnes of snacks, we got to rip the movies up cuz there was nobody else to piss-off if we wanted to talk, and it was just so... non-urban. I know, i'm just a big city boy, so going to the drive-in is pretty fun, regardless of all other factors!

NeverWinter Never...

<sigh> So it looks like NeverWinter Nights is not due till next summer (2002). Bummer, but, as we all have such high hopes for it, i'd rather they take their time and get it right then rush and it suck! Waiting is the hardest part... The NeverWinter Vault has a good set of info on the game, plus, for you coders out there, its got a whole section, with lessons, on NWN script. Check it out.
