Push Break

Push Break (Aliases: Basic Step, Sugar Push)

Start with little pulling resistance (i.e., no slack think: water skiing ). Do not let your elbows go behind you body ( think: there is a broom stick tied to your elbows ).

follower:

count 1, 2
step forward on right foot, step forward on left foot (step with your center)
count 3 a 4
step right left in place and then backward on right foot on count 4 (feel being stopped by leader and sent backward on count 4 think: broom stick) (touch step on 3,4 is also taught)
count 5 a 6
step left, right, left in place (re-establish connection; also called anchor step )
Feel being led forward on 1, stopped on 3 and led back on 4 ( do not anticipate )

leader:

count 1, 2
step backward on left foot (body lead), step in place on right foot (step with your center)
count 3 a 4
step left right in place and then forward on left foot on count 4 (stop the follower on count 3, keep hands at waist level; lean forward a little; you could open up a little think: broom stick, send follower backward on count 4 by stepping forward); (touch step on 3,4 is also taught)
count 5 a 6
step right, left, right in place (re-establish connection; also called anchor step)
Try to do it smoothly by connecting with your partner by 2; stopping your partner by 3, to send her back almost without effort on 4.
