Whip
Whip (Aliases: Turning Whip)
There are many different styles and variations of Whips.
This version works best for me.
follower:
- count 1
- step forward on right foot
- count 2
- step forward on left foot (and make half right turn, feel being turned by a push into you right arm)
- count 3&4
- backwards _coaster_step (step with your center)
- count 5
- step forward on left foot (and make half right turn, feel being turned by a push into you right arm)
- count 6
- step backward on right foot
- count 7&8
- step left, right, left in place (re-establish connection; also called anchor step )
do not anticipate any turning; go for the ride.
leader:
- count 1
- step backward on left foot (body lead)
- count 2
- replace weight on right foot (keep you left arm in front of you; this turns the follower; make 1/4 right turn)
- count 3&4
- triple over the slot giving follower comfortable spring; lead follower back on 4 (1/4 right turn)
- count 5
- small step backward on right foot (body lead; 1/4 right turn)
- count 6
- step back into slot (face follower; 1/4 right turn)
- count 7&8
- step right, left, right in place (re-establish connection; also called anchor step)
Instead of stepping backward on 5 the leader could also just provide
a twist lead by hooking the right foot behind the left and twisting to the right.
