With your center

With your center

In WCS you should aim to be always balanced. In other words, always have your weighted foot underneath your center point of balance. Stepping with your center means that you hit the beat with your full weight (instead of just your foot hitting the floor). This is essential for hitting breaks and leading/following. For followers stepping-with-your-center means that you should never overstep the lead. If the lead is small, step small. This helps you maintain the connection with your partner. In layman terms: keep your steps small. Try to step with your weight directly this makes you hit the beat of the music better.

For leaders stepping-with-your-center means that you move your body before you step. When leading the one you start moving on the "a" before the one. Leading using a body lead is moving your partners center by moving your center. The connection is essential to make this happen.

Stepping with your center on your right foot is performed by pushing your center forward using your left foot. Your left foot (in this case) is your sending foot and your right foot is the recieving foot. The difference from normal walking is that in normal walking you first put your foot down and then put weight on it. In walking with your center you push your center so that weight can instantaneously be put on the foot when you put it down.

Overstepping is the major cause for balance problems for followers. Points where this happens are count 4 on right or left side pass causing anchor to be too far back; 3a4 on Whip.
